7-17 June 2010: site-specific installation for MUSA project, Via Roma, Piacenza, work done together with Gak Sato.
One of the main streets of this small city has been half-abandoned by its inhabitants following the influx of non-Italian ethnic groups (kebab shops, latinos, etc). Our sound installation (with Gak Sato) in the window of an abandoned restaurant featured keys on lace curtains blowing in the artificial wind (a large fan, hidden from view from the outside). The keys hanging on the curtains strike the glass and attract the attention of passers-by. A transducer on the window uses the glass as a speaker for wind sounds made vocally by kids. Una strada nel centro di Piacenza, nel giro di pochi anni, viene abbandonata dai piacentini in seguito all’arrivo di alcuni negozi di kebab e l’insediarsi di una piccola comunità di immigrati. Il progetto è installato nella vetrina di un ristorante sfitto.
Un grande ventilatore nascosto agita le chiavi appese, che picchiano sul vetro. Un dispositivo sonoro riproduce, come un ologramma acustico, il suono registrato di bambini che imitano il vento, udibile ai passanti.

GLOBAL WIND (2010)
Most cities, after all, are simply congeries of villages. Villages get abandoned, burned, invaded, even moved. Cities seem to change slowly. But villages can change overnight. You return after a few days of hunting or trading, and everybody’s gone. Scattered tools and garments, left behind in the haste of flight. Curtains flapping in the wind.
Le città, in gran parte, non sono altro che agglomerati di villaggi. I villaggi possono essere abbandonati, bruciati, invasi, addirittura spostati. Le città sembrano cambiare lentemente. Ma un villaggio può trasformarsi da un giorno all’altro. Torni dopo qualche giorno di caccia o di commercio, e sono spariti tutti. Pochi utensili, qualche indumento per terra, dimenticati nell’urgenza della fuga. Le tende che sbattono nel vento.
