REHEARSAL

Installation in group show in various locations. The piece by Steve Piccolo was in the Crypt of San Sepolcro in Cagliari. The standard shape of a coffin was traced on the rocky wall in chalk. A spotlight directly behind the viewer standing in front of the coffin outline projected the person’s shadow at the right size to fit nicely into the coffin. A sort of rehearsal of death, listening to eerie sounds from outer space while wearing a large audio headset that makes the shadow of the visitor seem rather like that of an astronaut. The title also plays with the etymology of the term. Rehearsal: c. 1300, “to give an account of,” from Anglo-Fr. rehearser, O.Fr. rehercier “to go over again, repeat,” lit. “to rake over,” from re- “again” + hercier “to rake, harrow” (see hearse!!).
