CRAC Cremona and Museo Villa Croce Genoa
A more complex operation, combining the Panic Box non-verbal recording sessions with a next step in which the recordings are used to assemble a choral piece performed by non-professional singer/actors using mp3 players with headphones for prompts and almost automatic synchronization. Curated by Dino Ferruzzi CRAC Cremona and Silvia Cini – Museo Villa Croce, Genoa.
The full mix of voices from Cremona and Genoa, in a simultaneous performance on the same evening on May 26, 2012, including malfunctioning skype and telepathic coordination, has been divided into two parts to lighten up the files for download. Listen/download by clicking on the links to the right.
I have not included photographs of the participants for reasons of privacy.
In Genoa the recording is of a “dress rehearsal”. In Cremona there were two recordings, one with a good bit of traffic noise, then a very nice one done in a deserted modern shopping mall type place right in the center of the city, sheltered from street noise and strangely assonant with the idea of the piece… because the graffiti on the wall are also nearly non-verbal expressions of something, done in an almost secret place, away from watchful eyes and listening ears (or not?). All that remains of the good intentions of this modernist shopping gallery is a porno shop, a cheap hotel and a lot of empty storefronts of steel and glass. It must be a fun place for skateboarding.
