Memories of Empress Yekaterina Alexeevna (Catherine the Great) and Prince Grigori Alesksandrovič Potěmkin inhabit the room behind this enclosed balcony. Were they still alive today it would be from here, behind the window, that Catherine would raise her gloved hand and wave to Potěmkin as he climbs into his newly constructed aerodynamic sledge and takes off full tilt through the snow to deal with the Cossacks before moving on to Sevastopol, where he would build more of his illusionary villages to indulge the fantasies of his beloved Catherine, Empress of a magnificent realm. Catherine turns around and enters the splendid soundproof room lined with 21st-century carpets, where she lies down with her young lover.
